Hi,

I am following the posts in this forum for quite a while and love to know more about rocket stoves (or anything efficient and environmentally friendly and easy to build to heat my cabin). I am new to the idea, also a very bad welder due to lack of experience, nothing to contribute right now. Picking your brains hopefully will enable me to find the right design for my little cabin and gain some experience to share. But let me read all the posts and threads that I haven't been able to see before.

Thanks for these forums. I like to say: give boys some ideas, tools and access to a scrap yard and they will never stop playing and inventing. Haven't looked at (or found) the scrap yards in my area yet 

I remember a good while ago there was a question about drawing software but can not find it right now... For MACs there is Autodesk Inventor Fusion available, free. It might not be too useful as it might not be available for Windows computers (or Linux). What is the drawing software you use most? Thanks!

Hi and welcome Tipperary, I like to use google sketchup, it is intuitive and quick and easy to learn, lots of tutorials on youtube.

ive considered the 15kg bottle but you do need 2 of them cut smaller to build from otherwise its just one bottle instead its the one below 44kg bottle otherwise its trying2hards much smaller version

hi and welcome to the forums as you build one up you will gain more experience as you weld it also take a look in the lounge theres a post about welding in there that should help out

I looked at fire bricks for kilns. Some of them are easy to shape (e.g. for a highly insulated riser tube). I built an electric kiln before (in my "previous" potter life). I guess that any bricks could be used for test runs before I get some real fire bricks.
Due to the insulation properties of some bricks a stove would heat up much faster as there is nothing to be heated like a stainless steel tube.

As you see, I am still all over the place and haven't decided where to go. I guess that playing around is the best way to start. Thanks again for your help, I will keep you posted :)
