Heating my Garage

Hi, Im Gary from northern Wisconsin, I needed to heat my garage a little cheaper than what the propane cost. Stumbled upon the Rocket stove and turned it in to a rocket heater.  I used a 100lb propane tank.

I hope to give out and pick up more ideas on the forum.

This is my first one, this winter I'm going to ad some heat transfer modifications both in side and out. You can check out my design on my youtube video.

Gary, I found the videos. I like that part of the country but have never been there in the winter. Lots of wood, that's for sure.

Yes they are, one is my first attempt and the other one is how to start the heater without getting a back draft.  Like I said above, Im going to add some heat exchange modifications this winter.  I figured the 7 day hold had something to do with junk mail.

Also if you like bonfires, try this setup it uses the rocket like draft process. Very little smoke. On youtube, search for garybart and you will find a link to "the worlds best bonfire"

With this fire, the only objection we have had is from the Grand kids, there are not sticks to play with..... :<)  .

Something you can do to keep the burn area from going cherry red is to add some steel fins, that will dissipate the heat and lengthen the life of your burn chamber.

At the time of your video shoot I could see it was pretty darn cold!

Gary to help increase the life of your burn chamber area where it gets cherry red hot, you can add steel fins which will dissipate the heat and it will no longer get cherry red.

Thank you, retired photographer here. I like the fin idea, better to get the heat radiating in to the room asap as long as there is a draft. Like I said above I will be adding some heat absorbing and radiating modifications this winter. I want to get the exhaust vent temp from 110/125 down to around 90 degree. For sure it was cold doing the video, 28 below 0 out side the garage.

Ha, no norther Wisconsin. We had a very hard winter. The frost line went down eight feet in the road which caused the underground power lines to break in seven places. This is our lake house.

My water line is on the surface, but winter is cold enough here for me. The older I get, the colder it seems. Wheels on the stove is a good idea.
