Hi from sunny Florida

Hi my name is Pete , I like rocket stoves . I met tryin2hard on you tube and he told me about these forums . I have built and installed many turbo charger systems and they seem similar in operation so I built one out of some 4" pipe and it worked the way it should the first try so now I'm hooked .

Welcome rocket booster. And where are the videos and the pictures?... You know the rules, no videos or no pictures so never happened...

Now I know catropheus is kidding but ya we want to see a video man!

The first pic is the first time I lit the stove and the rest are of it heating up some Campbell's soup for dinner with a hand full of wood chips . I will video part of my next stove build soon .

This stove is all 4" exhaust pipe it has a 3/16" steel grate that runs the length of the fire box . The hopper has a divider to allow air to get down to where the combustion is happening and down under the grate as secondary air to the combustion chamber . It is insulated with a 5 gallon ash can filled with perlite .

Looks good, great little emergency cooker, or off grid?

This will come in handy one fine day.

I designed it as a single cook top for camping or buggin out when the time comes .

Neat! I see you changed to a vertical feed in the second photo. Do you think the burn chamber needs to be that long? How about fitting the feed and burn chamber into the trash can beside the riser and keeping everything insulated and a shorter burn chamber into the bargain? Just a thought.

It worked good with the front loading but it works better self feeding with the vertical feed it is easier to cook with . This was my first stove and I tweaked it a tittle but the intent was to test out the technology and it met all my expectations so far . My next stove experiment will incorporate reflective hi temp ceramic exhaust coating for insulation and exhaust wrap on the heat riser with no can or perlite .

Do you have a source that you can recommend for the ceramic paint?

From what I can find its pretty expensive.

Would be cool if you can post any links for your ceramic paint source in the materials section on the site.

Trying2Hard , do you have a powder coating shop in your area if so you should see what they have on hand . I prefer Cerakote glacier black C-7600 it is air cure , holds up to 2000f and is reflective to keep the heat in the pipes . Also I like Cerakote transfer black for the heat exchanger tank it holds up to 1200f and is designed to dissipate heat from the parts it is coated with . Hears the technical data sheets for these two products they are both air cure .

Thank you all for the welcome ! I love these stoves they are a good work out for the brain . I love to fabricate and engineer machines , I build hot rods for a living and I specialize in exhaust/intercooler piping fabrication , wiring and electronics . I'm also planning a 3 axis cnc router/plasma machine build soon for small production of steel and aluminum flanges and machine parts . Anyhow thanks again for the welcome .

Tell you the truth I am honestly thrilled you found us.
The sky is the limit man and we are going to piss a lot of people off, I know have been for the last two years. You have two groups, the ones stuck in a rut of conventional thinking and think they are the unconventional thinkers and then guys like us striking out and breaking the mold.
The attacks I have found come from most of the conventional thinkers stuck in a rut.

Listen in just the short time you joined in I can see where your ideas combined with many of the others involved here will exponentially accelerate the development of the wood and pellet stove arena.

I am stoked about the idea of a self monitoring stove using easily available off the shelf material and hardware like you have been suggesting.
I was sitting here thinking today, here is a guy from Sunny Florida developing a hybrid rocket stove, too funny:>)
Thanks for the advice man, will start digging, I do have my own powder coating machine, it is the portable craftsman hand held one, it really works quite well, I am wondering if I can use that to coat parts and then cure them? Need to find a supplier, I have bought my powder on ebay and it has worked out well, cheaper than buying locally.

Forgot to add that I am excited about the flange work you will be doing, your work will come in handy with expansion and constriction zones, I have been thinking about this in relation to a pellet burning option I will be adding to my Dyno V stove I am currently building. In order to obtain the draft velocity needed for a nice clean hot burn without any power assist, you need to induce higher velocities of the air intake area and focus it.
Have been working out how to make an insert that can be placed into the front of the firebox to do just this, the pellet feed will come in from the side.
