It seems like such a waste - the back wall of the riser where the flame hits after exiting the venturi. I would think that area is where the greatest temps would be.
Just throwing this idea out there.

that seem logical. maybe the stove could be designed as a u shape or similar so that the hottest part is out front

when you have a probe. you know its not the greatest area of heat, just were the flames cant make the corner, and are pounding into the wall.

i changed mine if you noticed so used dual flick one raised at the back one flicking from the side then using the heat to rise better
all it really does is saves on more cutting than whats needed so if you dont need to cut it then leave it
