I have another tractor to gasify.

If there is interest I'll post some pics of it as we go. It needs some cleaning up, painting and tin work.

let me know.

here is a short vid of me hand cranking the A after giving it a bath... must have gotten the mag wet as it was much easier to start before this

Heh.  I obviously knew what you meant, but English being what it is, I was mildly curious how you were going to vaporize a tractor.  Very Happy

Cheers, man.  Looks like a great project.  I'm in love with old Farmall tractors (well, old tractors in general, with Farmall as my fave).  Would love to have one that runs on woodgas.

heat steel hot enough and it does vapourize... :)

Sorry I haven't really updated much here as of late... been busy... I'm at the point when I don't usually show what's inside... I will say it's all about keeping the heat in where it's needed for as long as you can and then use the heat from the gas produced to heat incoming air... can't be wasteful... and the more heat you can apply to incoming air the more efficent the gasifier becomes.

I'll post some pics when I'm about to mount the first gasifier to the case... then I'll start working on mounting one to the A... I really like that little tractor

Arvid thanks for showing what you have.

Can I ask what the diameter of the round thick steel tubes are?

Also how do they hold up seeing they are mild steel?

Thanks

i use 6" sch 40 pipe. even stainless will revert back to regular steel when high heats are applied to it... so mild steel works just as well.

I have had no problems with deterioration. the system self insulates, keeping the oxidization zone away from the tube walls... I typically see very little scaling even.

make it thick where it's needed and thinner where it can be...

I do everything with a purpose with my design... that's why they work the way they do.

What's it cost to have a tractor adapted like this? I mean, if I brought you a tractor, what would you charge?

Depends on the tractor somewhat... gasification of a tractor starts at about 8000.00 Canadian... mounting is extra as we'll have to figure it out as we go. We will have some completed tractors available in the near future...

no problem at all... if and when you get around to building a unit let me know and I'll offer suggestion where I can.

all i can say is thanks though ive been watching the builds of yours ive found them interesting and curious about these builds of yours

the way im looking at is to run a generator that would run a mig welder so i can keep welding away however its the pre cost thats biting me at moment to is it worth it

so for now im just watching and seeing the results of the builds on economy of building one and using it for welding

as with anything, could you build a gasifier like mine cheaper yourself? you betcha... all you'd have to do is know what I know...

I have been lucky that I've had someone close mentor me, while taking a leap of faith on some un tested design ideas (supplied by experts who weren't going to build them). luckily they all came together for me after changing them for simpicity... well, that and I've build (or modded) and ran for hundreds of hours 7 different gasifiers to get to what I consider a well rounded unit.

wood gas is fun once you've got the bug it's hard to not build one... and continue to try to improve it... it's a lot like wood stoves in that regard :)

Sorry I haven't posted much lately... been busy...

had to make a better circle cutter for our little plasma torch... works pretty good, much better than free handing it.

lower vessel and gasifier air inlet welded on finally. have the cooler/final filter almost done... just have to weld in the inlet and outlet then it can get cleaned up and painted... I have a threaded in (condensate drain will take it's place) stand on the cooler/filter.. makes it a lot easier to work on as it's hard to make a rounded end sit flat... sheesh... wish I had thought of it earlier.
