Just having a mess around with some box lying around.
Making a basic j shaped stove for the garden, quite heavy 5mm 100 box thought i could experiment with adding something to create a vortex at the bottom of the box riser.
Also going to make some module units to fit on the top for example open burner, hotplate, and a basket containing lava rock for bbq.

before you go any further retest using an 1" x 1" box section just enter into the vortex tube with the 1" x 1" tube
my test was done using the 1" tube and has a dual flick one where yours is and 1" rise at the back as i estimated the fire so it would rise enough with bounce on the square tube per side more used as an aid
I would build it with a box on end of it than using a 4" square tube as i get over an hr with burning soft wood in the firebox

Hi Gadily,
Thank you for the advice, at the moment I am happy just to feed this one as its staying outside in the garden, as you mentioned a fire box for a longer burn is more practical if longer periods of heating are required without attention.
I have enjoyed putting this together, For insulating the burn chamber and riser I was thinking of attempting to bend some 1mm steel and make a jacket filling the void with vermiculite.

Carried on with a few modifications,
at the bottom of the square riser i have some stainless sheet rolled around as a lining reaching half way up to help the vortex, also in the burn chamber I have a sort of ramp coming off one wall to give the gass a flick into the chamber and finally have some primary air going to the back of the burn with a bit of the feed tube sectioned off. As you can see the stove got very hot after 5 / 10 mins.
The box used was heavy 5mm so I think after adding a insulating jacket it will have to stay put in the garden should be great with a grill top on.

id also advise using a bit of stainless steel within the firechamber all around it like an insert this will have the effect of making it hotter as well
id actually be looking to change that using the vid shown above as a hot plate a feature within the garden with extra uses as well
heating and a cooking top that also has clean air whilst its being used
yes i can see the vortex within the tube as well nice build there

Barron welcome to the club man, I think you did great having to learn how to weld. I was in the same boat when I built my first one! Congratulations on your build!
