PostSubject: Way up northern Canada   Way up northern Canada EmptyFri Oct 09, 2015 10:03 am

Hi, this is my first post. Brand new to the forum. Need to build a wood stove very soon as winter is approaching. Need to keep the dogs warm! I am in Newbrook, deep northern Alberta, Canada. I have just started research on this topic, very interesting so far. Looking forward to start my build. See you in the forum.

welcome to the site sopis

you will find many a build on the forums however its what you decide to build between large and small

of coarse the main aim of a wood burner is conserving on wood usage whilst getting the most out of your wood burner in heat

Thanks. That appears to be a key question into how to design this so it stays constantly running without heating the place up to much.

Welcome sopis, be sure to not let that make you cut corners on testing and making sure it is safe.

I almost did not have enough time on my very first build to test it long enough before installing due to the incredible need for heat, we were living in our motor home at the time and winter was only a few weeks away!

I finished it and got it in the day we had a first light snow.

Too much pressure, always do a good deal of testing, never use something like this with pellets unattended, or even sticks unattended.

There is too much that can go wrong and cause back drafts, and smoke to fill the living quarters.

Ask me how I know, as well bigalow farms.

He lost his entire geo dome green house crops and fish.

Thanks for that info. I am now planning to have the air come from outside via a pipe to avoid this scenario. That way it will blow outside instead of into the house. I think the snow will fly before I am finished. I have some infrared heaters in the house now which do a pretty good job for the moment. They will be my back up in case something is not right with my stove. My furnace is not working anymore and I will not be fixing it. I am not interested in using a gas furnace, it is getting very expensive to run those things.

Be sure to look at the videos ppotty1 and I did and a few others on making a chimney cap that is very much back draft proof, even in very high winds.
