I became interested in Rocket Stove technology after stumbling across Youtube videos of them. I think the first one was "Erica & Ernie" (currently over 1,000,000 views) demonstrating their rocket stove mass heater in the Okanogan Highlands area  (not sure if they are in Washington State, US, or in British Columbia, CA as the Okanogan region straddles both countries).

I reaaly was impressed with refinements shown by T2H , Ppotty1, and others. Thanks for sharing your work and findings!

My friends have a cabin in that region of Washington State too, at about 4,000 feet above sea level. Their old inefficient 25 year old boiler system bit the dust last year. We are currently finishing up a replacement utilizing Rocket stove technology. It is essentially a 2,600 gallon tank with a firebox/heat exchanger inserted into 1 end. We were initially going to use 8" diameter clay flue pipe for the riser. After doing some test firing, one of the pieces cracked. We went ahead and used them anyway temporarily, just to get the water temp up to avoid the threat of freezing (getting to be that season). We are, for the more permanent riser, using a combination of ceramic wool and refractory cement.

We had a tough time getting it to draw properly the first firing. we  had smoke coming out the intakes. Once we got a good fire going, and the water temperature up, it began to draw and burn clean. We actually heated the single wall stack with a propane torch to induce a proper draft. We still have more changes to make before we start the real learning process of how to operate it.

I'll be back with updates.

Welcome, are you guys documenting what you doing with photos or a video?
I sure would like to see you work.
Early on we took a great deal of belittling from the other rocket stove community you speak of.

I do see now that even they are starting to come around and now using vortex generation and secondary air in some of their systems.

Those who have been involved with the traditional rocket stove building and experimenting seem to be getting on board with the latest developments.
