I joined the forum to learn more about different styles and ideas for building a rocket wood stove. I welded for the Military for 30 years before retiring. I got my journeyman status from Bath Iron works in Bath Maine. I welded on just about any type of metal as well as all styles of welding. There I mostly worked on Frigates, sugar barges and dredgers. So if anyone needs help with welding I am open to questions. I also continued my education in Engineering (I started out as a draftsman in High School) and since my father owned a Machine shop, I grow up sweeping chips and cleaning the shop as far back as I can remember. My Dad didn't like to weld so he started me brazing when I was in Jr. high School. We had an old Lincoln welder that was in the shop when my dad bought it, so it was old and looked like a torpedo. We also had a full blacksmith shop in the back that was there since the shop was built in 1850. In Maine we had alot of mills that manufactured cloth, lace and paper, so that was the main work done, repairing their machinery. After High School I started at BIW (Bath Iron Works), In the 80's I moved to California and was employed by FMC Corp. where we manufactured M113s, Bradley Fighting Vehicles and some parts to the A1M1s. Over the years I worked at alot of Misc. welding shops, because was with any defence contracts, the money varied depending on who was in charge of the Government at the time.
Now that I am retired I can start building a tiny house that I can use while I volunteer as a campground/park host. I am hosting now but as my 27' trailer has seen better days I have decided to use the trailer frame as the base. After looking at alot of videos of different wood stoves, I would like to build a rocket stove as heat for the tiny house. Being that the square footage will be about 200, the stove will have to be a small one. I would also like to be able to heat the water as well but I'm not sure how to build it so it will not have any problems in the future.
