Hello from the Great Lakes State! I've admired the way the rocket stove design(s) seems to use little wood to produce a good amount of heat. I'd like to learn more.

I do hope to have a build at some time/point in the near future. And, Yes, I will do my best to post progress.

Joe

welcome to the site joe

theres plenty of designs to choose one or you could do a hybrid of a mix of builds to get the most out of your system that you build

must admit its what attracted me to the stove is using very little wood and also less to store somewhere

on another note some have already proven it can run on 1 log for quite a while so further improvements have been made to the system

Look up Gary B's rocket stove, great design.
Welcome!

I've seen quite a few designs and have read a fair amount of printed information, all of which was online, but there's always more to see and read LOL

I have a design in mind.... it's a pipe dream for now.  I have to settle a few things I have in mind before I do a small scale mockup.

I did start out with some refractory material for what should be somewhat of a hybrid stove.  Laid up a dry rudimentary "J" design to start.

Ideally I'm shooting for a larger stove, larger than most of what I've seen anyway.  There are some VERY GOOD mechanics out there!!

I've seen many of you on YouTube and you're all quite inventive and clever to boot!  I've viewed videos from Japan to Sweden to Great Britain to Russia to America.

Reading and viewing is one thing but there's no substitute for hands on.  Thanks for the welcome gadily.....  T2H ..... I'll give Gary B a look too thanks.

I'm a mason by trade, retired now for some time. I've worked on several hundred conventional fireplaces in my day.  Firebrick, fresh air intake, damper, smoke shelf,

throat, and flue liners etc.  At one point I built a 4' fireplace INTO a fireplace.  The flue liners for the host 8' fireplace were approximately 36"x36" if memory serves.

Large enough to crawl into anyway.  That was a rather unique situation.  Lots of fun with that one there.  Tough to remember it all now.  Maybe that's a good thing.

However, this rocket stove science is some different kind of animal to tame to get the most out of it.  Should be some fun ahead.  Much head scratching too likely.

I'm going to try to combine rocket stove technology with russian fireplace technology using firebrick and steel.  Steel being used for a heatsink.

I'll have to try to get up to speed with the uploading progress.  I did see a sticky on the site somewhere about how to upload, so, I have help there. Thank you!

You know, it's funny to me how a computer can get a somewhat sane person talking to himself.

Well, I babbled way too much.  Cheers to all.

as you will see garys stove throws large stoves out of the window for what heat output it provides you with and for the actaual area it heats up is quite large compared to the big builds that ive seen

all to do with theremal dynamics and the system that is built from it

i must admit im the plumber normally ripping them out to install central heating instead

firebrick would be your heat sink and storing capacity

my advice try to build a small build than a big build first see how it runs and then progrss from there as it helps you to see improvements where you think it might make all the difference dosnt always work though but sometimes it does and you get more output from doing so

there is brick built systems on this forum as i lie the look of them and also there designs though most are built within the centre of a room others are not

the info is here best to right click open in new tab then switch between the tabs to post pics or vids on site

Thanks for the advice gadily.  Yes indeed, as I said above, I'll definitely try a small mockup just to see what's what before I try

something larger.  I'm hoping to have some fun with it anyway.  Combining the two concepts is what I'm after.  Now all I have to do

is try to put something together to see if it works.  Thanks for the link too, that will save me some time. Much appreciated.
