Seems like a lot of work for the end results...probably why they charge ten bucks a bag for charcoal but think that Kings would be more dence and a lot less dirty. I got tired of paying the premium and started making hockey puck sized hickory, and when I can get it, pecon, from two inch sized branches. I just use small chop saw or chainsaw and throw it in a barrel for a couple years. Most of my charcoal goes in the smoker anyway and I soak wood if it is to dry or I want to control heat and temp.. I would however like to have a more efficient way of smoking other than the Brinks smoker I have, where I am not using as much fuel. It takes about a bag and a half of charcoal and probably a gallon or two of wood to smoke a small sized hog. Thanks for the info.
