It won't draft unless I open a door.

I guess it needs outside air ran to it.

by looking at your pics its looking like you have too much mass of air to move

need to know your height of the stove your width and length of your mass

the other alternative that you could do is drop bricks inside the mass area so you have less mass of air to move inside of it

I have a 10' horizontal run outside. I'm guessing that is too much cold air to push up.

The Crisco didn't work. Had to cut, pry and split it at the seam to get it out.

The refractory material held up great and I wasn't easy on it.

Has anyone tried Vaseline as a release agent?

i had the same with mine running horizontal but mine was longer ive learnt not to do it that way but to have an upward flue asap but your allowed a certain amount of run depending on your stove build size

there is proper concrete release agent that you paint on first

check on ebay its on there

I need to seal up the stove pipe seams, add more vertical pipe and add outside air. I hope that fixes it.

The top got to 500f with poor drafting and the door open, letting in 19 degree air. Not sure if it will get to my 800 goal.

The refractory material manufacturer said he uses red grease.

My pipe comes out of the bottom of the heat exchanger and goes horizontal 2feet, diagonal 13feet, horizontal 10feet then vertical 10feet.

The galvinized piece at the top near the wall is when it reduces to 5 inches.

The pipe at the block wall(before it goes outside) only got to 99f.

The pipes sweats a bunch, it leaked water everywhere.

When the outside door is closed it blows cold air out really bad. Its drafting backwards.

oh i see what your doing now, it should work

how long have you run it for ? to get those temps please also note your also heating a thick plate of steel

you need more heat at the last corner to give a much better pull on the system also is yours a bungalow type of building

gas bottles are 14" - 15" wide a barrel is bigger than this

It measure about 24"x24" by 24" heat riser tube

what is your gap distance between top plate and your riser tube as should be around 1 1/2" too 2"

your struggerling to push air through the system

I would suggest putting some blocks or bricks inside of the stove exchanger to give it less mass of air to push into the pipes this will make them hotter

using blocks or bricks reduces mass of the unit but added effect will make the system stay warmer for longer so is dual use in end

the pipes will condensate until they get hot enough

found the vid this guy has the same problem with the run of the pipes and also the thickness is involved

I had a "what if idea" ...  At the top where the exhaust pipe goes into the wall , place a " T " between the wall and the first angel and use this line as the cold air intake to the stove . Maybe add an inline damper control .

I think that would preheat the intake air , operate without creating negative pressure in the house and reclaim more of the heat from the exhaust into the room ?

Ran it for about 2 hours

The heat exchanger is .25" plate and the main part of the barrel is 26"x26" on the inside

The top of the riser tube is 1.75" gap from the inside of the heat exchanger.

I posted the plans of the casted part earlier so all of the dimensions are on here... the only difference is I dropped the top of the horizontal burn chamber 1".

It's just my basement. The reason I need to run the horizontal run outside is because I have a wrap around porch and didn't want to cut holes in it.

Steve, I see what your saying. That might work. It's crazy I can get it up to temp, close my outside door and after about 5 minutes it will start to back draft again.

the reason why its happening is that you have sucked out all your air within that room therefore you have a minus effect within there

once you open the door your room becomes positive

therefore you need the fresh air supply to be fed direct to the heater stove to improve this you can heat the incoming fresh air using your flue as it comes into the room

it also stops the rooms air being pulled out if you use both primary and secondary fresh air from the new outside fresh air

If you do bring in a fresh air supply I would discourage installing it directly to the stove.
Put it near the stove.
Otherwise you run the risk of your air supply turning into a chimney and having the smoke run out the fresh air feed.
