yup that is the same set up, and yes it's something i built... with the help from a friend of mine... this was a unit we built to try a few ideas out, our pre production unit stems from it... we then put it outside for a year and a half in the weather.... I brougnt it inside and re-vamped it to our current internals... I do need to make the nozzle a bit bigger but all in all it's working pretty good. I need to make a cooler and filter for this system and then i'll probably using it out at my cottage to run an engine and charge batteries.

O-ok ! So how do you go about testing the octane value of the gases that your flaring off, To know you can run an engine?
Do you have to worry about poor engine performance, detonation ?

wood gas in itself has higher octane than gasoline. but because of it's lower btu will derate your engine if you don't build an engine that is optimized for wood gas. higher compression ratio and advancing the timing is what most people are doing.
how do i test if it will run an engine? i build my gasser specific to the engine size and rpm i want it to run at. I normally don't flare... I hook it up to the engine and run it period.... don't have a cooler/filter train built for the unit i was flaring...
i only started flaring once i had a system that worked.... fire sure is pretty.... lol...
if i can see the flare in daylight... i don't try to run an engine with it... that is my usual test to begin with.

Thanks for taking the time to explain that for me! I know engines that run on Propane also need a few modification or they wont last long.
I would like to spend more time on learning about wood gasification, my plate of different projects is over full the way it is, so I best keep on with what I have going on at the present.

lol... i hear ya there... my main focus is gasification... I have 2 system build still needing to be completed and they coolers and filter trains for them... fun fun fun

My video camera kinda sucks as it doesn't really get the colour totally right... there is definitally blue, with red/ orange.... the auto gain control makes it look brighter than it is....
This i will add is un filtered gas... it's just allowed to expand and slow down in an expansion chamber... cools it some too as i'm pulling on it with a shop vac... i hate melting the plastic hoses... lol...

Filtered Gases :?: what needs to be filtered out ?

Great results considering this is an unfiltered flame.
Nice.

dk what needs to be filtered out are any tars and particulates.
You do not want that yuk in your engine.

O-ok, TY. Kind of like refining petroleum, and or Natural gas, before dumping it in your vehicle.

I have an Idea ! Maybe we can be the first to come up with an additive in a can, For these type gasifiers ? :P Just a matter of time before someone comes up with another cure-all, fix-it, in a can product.

I personally don't believe you can't easily filter tar. Particulates yes, and you need to condense liquids out of it... that's where most of my problems are. lots of steam in the gas, though it's hard to tell by the vids.

New ejector, so I don't need a cooler or filter for flaring

I have a fellow coming Tuesday so I can put a gasser on his small JD tractor... should be fun
