hi and welcome to the forum rob

pics wont be allowed for 7 days annoying but does stop spammers which i think is a good idea

if you know your model of wood fire we can get a pic and post it up till then your more than welcome to post in another part of the forum and discuss there your intentions and upgrades to your system

you can use mild steel but ss used in the right places makes a system much hotter where needed and is less weight than mild steel

there has already been some conversions via the standared wood burner they are on here using the secondary burn idea

id advise taking a look at this post

https://woodstoves.forumotion.co.uk/t379-new-twist-on-old-wood-stove

using secondary air in this approach would double your heat output but use less wood than you are doing now

depending on how much you want to hack and cut into that thing to make a new one

heres 3 more ideas ppottys hotwater system and using the gas bottle method cutting the system in half but keeping door as loader cleanout its the back end of the system with the main changes

Conversion project in Delay! Untitl10

if i had that system as you do id be considering going down the route of a downdraft system by cutting it in half i presume it has the firebricks linners which will come in handy

page 2 for information and link to other info upon downdraft
